Social Media Help: How To Build a Business Facebook Page

Creating a business Facebook page, is a way to start your online presence. It allows you to
connect with friends and customers. Here are 10 steps to building a business Facebook page.

Step 1: Select Page Type

Visit http://www.facebook.com/pages/create.php and select the type of Page that best represents your business. This will help people searching for your type of business find you. Facebook has six categories: 1) Local Business or Place, 2) Company, Organization or Institution 3) Brand or Product 4) Artist, Band or Public Figure 5) Entertainment 6) Cause or Community.

Step 2: Fill Out Information

Based on your category selection you’ll be prompted to fill out specific information.  Be sure to completely fill out all fields so your page is optimized. The more information you can give the more likely customers will find you. 

Step 3:  Create Facebook Account

If you are not already signed into Facebook, you’ll be asked to create an account. Creating an account is simple and only takes a few minutes. This is required in order to have a Facebook Page. Either sign into Facebook or create a new account. 

Step 4: Add Image

Add a profile picture for your business. You can either upload your image or select one from your website. This image will appear with all your posts so it is important that the image is appropriately represents your business. It is suggested you use your brand logo or a professional photo. Be sure this image is clean and crisp. 

Step 5: Business Description

Add a description and your business website. Your description should be clear and complete. You can be as descriptive as possible but get to the point. Don't over sell yourself, just show what you do or sell. Be sure to use keywords to provide searches an opportunity to find you. Be informative about your business, services and products. A customer should be able to look at your business facebook page and know exactly what you do or sell. 

Step 6: Choose a Custom URL

Be sure to choose a distinctive facebook web address.  This web address can be used on business cards, websites, emails etc... So, select a web address that will be easy to remember, and that fits your business. Try to use the name of your business in the web address. It should be unique, but simple and easy to remember. 

Step 7: Start Populating

Your businesses Facebook Page is now created. You will be brought to your new page, where you will need to populate the page and invite people to “Like” it.  Facebook will walk you through several important steps, the first being to “Like” your own Page. In addition, you should invite your friends to “Like” your page. You can invite your friends by using our personal Facebook page. This is the best way to get started. Eventually, you can ask your friends to invite their friends and so on... 

Step 8: Start Posting

Now it is time to make your very first post.  Start by posting in your personal facebook page. Make an announcement about your new Facebook page and let people know you are ready to start building an active community. Then you can go into your business facebook page and let everyone know how excited you are to begin this page. Encouraging posts get the best feedback, stay positive. 

Step 9: Analytics

Now, that you are familiar with your Admin Panel you can start writing more posts. In addition, we’ll be writing more posts on how to use the panel to further optimize your Facebook Page and keep track of important analytics. Please check back with important information that will show you the Analytics. 

Step 10: Add Cover Photo

Facebook will not ask you to upload add a cover, but it’s highly suggest you do so. This image is very important as it takes up most of your page.  As Facebook writes your cover  "...is not meant for promotions, coupons, or advertisements. Your cover photo should not be primarily text-based or infringe on anyone else’s copyright..." Rather your photo should tell a story about your business. The image must be at least 399 pixels wide. Once you select a cover photo be sure to look at it and make sure it fits and looks fantastic!
